Op stap met oud mariniers! Tijdens het schrijven van mijn boek heb ik veel tijd besteed aan het hoofdstuk ‘samenwerken’. Via mijn netwerk werd ik benaderd door een aantal oud-militairen van vooral het Korps Mariniers. Zij geven vandaag de dag leiderschapstrainingen aan (team)leiders en teams. Wie dan denkt aan zware fysieke inspanningen, veel geschreeuw en afzien, komt bedrogen uit. Cursusleider Hans Heyda zei het in de trainingsruimte: ‘Wij maken geen mariniers van jullie, maar laten jullie kennis maken met militaire besluitvormingsprincipes’. In deze podcast spreek ik met Eduard van Brakel over de wijze waarop mariniers opereren en wat wij daarvan kunnen leren in het bedrijfsleven. Samenwerken is essentieel om wendbaar te blijven! Hoofdstuk 3 van mijn boek Reset! toont hoe mensen succesvol en duurzaam kunnen samenwerken. Hoe behaal je gezamenlijke doelstellingen en maak je samen het verschil? Hoe ga je samen een transformatie door? Kern hierin is dat je een combinatie maakt tussen wat al bekend is en wat mensen diep in zich verborgen hebben. Het start met een eerste fase met daarbinnen een voorwaarde is dat mensen contact met elkaar kunnen maken, waarna ze de intentie uitspreken om gezamenlijke doelen te willen bereiken. Het hoofdstuk ik ingedeeld in: * Hoe bouw je aan een gemeenschappelijk doel. * Luister naar elkaar met een ‘open mind’. * Hoe kijk je samen naar de toekomst. * Werk je samen aan een oplossing. * Borg wat je samen hebt ontwikkeld en hoe ontwikkel dat verder door. Het starten van een nieuw project Bij de start van een nieuw project is de kans groot dat het verleden als uitgangspunt wordt genomen. Het team pakt een vraagstuk op zoals de mensen dit geleerd hebben op hun opleiding, of zoals ze gewend zijn vanuit hun ervaring. Uit onderzoek naar topexecutives en wat hen succesvol maakt, is echter gebleken dat vraagstukken juist worden opgelost als je ze op een andere manier benadert dan je tijdens je opleiding of in het verleden hebt geleerd. Richt je dus niet op het verleden, maar juist op de toekomst. Op stap met de oud mariniers Toen de oud fmariniers hoorden dat ik deze hierboven genoemde ‘5 stappen aanpak’ koos sprak hen dat aan en werd ik voor een training uitgenodigd in november 2016 en ik heb het geweten. Ik werd om te beginnen direct uit mijn comfortzone gehaald en naar een bos gebracht, waar de daadwerkelijke training plaats ging vinden. Later werd mij uitgelegd dat de militaire setting is om ervoor te zorgen dat ik niet terug kon vallen op mijn eigen gedrag. En ook de opdracht die we uiteindelijk als team moesten uitvoeren – het gevangen nemen van een oorlogsmisdadiger – is een opdracht die ik niet dagelijks uitvoer. Ik ben trots dat ik deze ervaring heb kunnen meenemen voor de lezers van mijn boek Reset! en duidelijk beschreven wat je in een organisatie kunt leren van het onvoorwaardelijk commitment dat mariniers naar elkaar hebben en hoe je dat kunt toepassen op de werkvloer. In deze podcast onder andere: * Waarom doen we wat we doen? * Hoe werken mariniers samen en wat kunnen wij daarvan in organisaties leren? * Samenwerken in bizarre omstandigheden. * Kijken naar de kwaliteiten van mensen. ‘Wat kan iemand wel’ in plaats van ‘wat kan iemand niet’.

Seattle Sounders FC Win the CONCACAF Champions League, Liverpool Meet Real Madrid in the UCL Final

On the fifth time of asking a Major League Soccer club has finally won the CONCACAF Champions League. Seattle Sounders FC came in as favorites and came through some adversity with injuries early on, but in the end, their depth and quality shone through with a 3-0 win on the night and 5-2 on aggregate, the gold standard of MLS become the first US side to win the CCL. Erik and Sean discuss how big the moment really is, the players that made it happen, and what it means to be going to the FIFA Club World Cup as well. Also, the UEFA Champions League has an England vs Spain final as Liverpool dispatched Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate after a nervy first half that saw the Yellow Submarine make a comeback. However, this pales in comparison to the comeback the Spanish champions Real Madrid pulled off against Manchester City. After a quiet game, they exploded at the last minutes to force Extra Time and win it, in the end, to compete for their potentially 14th Champions League crown. Russia receives further bans from UEFA removing the Women's team from this summer's Women's EURO 2022, relegating the Russian Men's side to the third tier of the Nations League, and even banning them from UEFA Youth competitions too.You can also watch the show on video here: https://youtu.be/e6_iK4IK_nQ

Two Major League Soccer clubs have decided to make coaching changes with the San Jose Earthquakes sacking Matias Almeyda and D.C. United is due to sack Hernan Losada. Sean and Erik some of the story behind both firings, how Erik, as a DC United supporter feels about the move, and which team would be a better option for coaches looking at either job? The CONCACAF W Draw is done and joining the United States Women's National Team are rivals Mexico, the 2019 World Cup debutants Jamaica, and Haiti. Should there be any concern with the USWNT drawing the tougher teams out of the two groups? Is there a chance that anyone but Mexico going through this? Also, Group B sees Canada facing Costa Rica, Panama, and Trinidad & Tobago. Some Way Too Early Predictions are on the way. Finally, head scouts take their leave for Manchester United as Erik Ten Haag is all but appointed as the new United manager.
