002 Property Valuation: Art vs. Science

from Super-Prime UK · host Rob Cohen

Today, I would like to bring back an old discussion from my times as a student, on how art and science disciplines apply to property valuation. We will analyse the parts of the industry that relate to each discipline, and how they interact. What You Will Learn In This Episode: - What is considered art in property valuation, and what part is considered science - Why the uniqueness of some properties can only be understood from an art standpoint - The role of science in setting a value for a certain property Every piece of art is unique, and its artistic value will change depending on who is asked about it. Science is the complete opposite, where everything is measurable and comparable. But in property valuation, art and science are complementary, and they work together.    Resources: - My website: https://www.askrobco.com/  - Twitter https://twitter.com/askrobco  - Instagram https://www.instagram.com/askrobco/  - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmo02uW8LTXUhfiKB2oDlyA  - LinkedIn https://uk.linkedin.com/in/rob-cohen-125758172

Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
