008 - Flee

from Cinema Very Gay · host Jake and Kevin

Flee, released in 2021 and directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, follows Amin Nawabi (a pseudonym) as he recounts a secret past that threatens to harm his upcoming marriage. We follow Amin and his family over the course of his childhood as they escape from Afghanistan following the Afghan War and Amin eventually makes his way to Denmark. Told through beautiful animation, we are given access to events in Amin's past with otherwise no documentation and to Amin's internal struggles coming of age as a gay man through all his turmoil. At the time of recording this episode, Flee had been nominated for a slew of festival awards, and has since set a record at the Academy Awards for its trio of nominations for Best Documentary Feature, Best International Feature, and Best Animated Feature. Join Kevin and Jake as we get into just why this film is so special! As a bonus, you can now stream Flee on Hulu! Our miniseries moves forward with the acid-tongued diva-worshipper Addison DeWitt, masterfully played by George Sanders in the classic All About Eve.  CORRECTION: In the episode, we state that Flee is a Dutch film, but it is a Danish film. We hope our Danish audience is lenient with us!

This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Think Positive: Daily Affirmations Dachia Arritola The DogMom You've heard of affirmations, but have you used them successfully?
