048: Mastering Self-Compassion with Lola Berry

from Craft A Life You Love · host Amy Tangerine

Life is about learning to adapt and let things go that no longer serve us. Today on the podcast I had on a friend, Lola Berry. Lola is someone who has mastered the art of letting go of what doesn't serve her and being compassionate to herself in the process. She is a nutritionist, author, accredited yoga teacher, content creator, presenter, speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur who has a colorful approach to nutrition. In this episode, we chat about why failures need to be celebrated and about cultivating a willingness to learn, take a chance and see how things go. We talk about a few of her entrepreneurial endeavors including her shift from a smoothie business to a coffee business and her experience of going back to school to study acting. She also talks about the importance of keeping people around who are cheering you on and why she thinks everyone should have a therapist. She's very colorful. She's very passionate. She's very Australian. Over the years she's admired Steve Irwin and always wanted to bring that passion and enthusiasm to any project she focuses on. Lola's colourful approach to nutrition is supported by the Bachelor of Health Science she completed at Endeavour College of Natural Health, where she majored in Nutritional Medicine. Her nutrition studies propelled her to write ten books – Inspiring Ingredients, The 20/20 Diet, The 20/20 Diet Cookbook, Lola Berry's Little Book of Smoothies and Juices, The Happy Cookbook, The Happy Life, Lola Berry's Summer Food, Food to Make You Glow, Beauty Food and The Yoga Body. In 2017 Lola opened Happy Place by Lola Berry, a smoothie bar co-created with Salvatore Malatesta from St Ali. After a successful 3 year run, the South Melbourne smoothie bar closed its doors so Lola could focus on her new venture – Lola Coffee. Lola launched Lola Coffee to the market in August 2019 and the first batch sold out within hours! The brew is a speciality instant coffee with lion's mane; it's a healthy, insane brain tonic coffee. Concurrently in 2019, Lola focused on media work. She completed courses and training in TV presenting (special focus on reading autocue), acting, dialect and voice work. Each of these are aimed at helping build her skill set as a professional speaker, TV presenter and professional media talent. She also launched Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry – an interview podcast about failures with guests including Megan Gale, Georgia Love and Olivia White. Lola loves to interview people about the lessons and failures that have ultimately led to people's success. It's the "not so shiny times'' that actually shape us and make us stronger. Lola created, hosts and produces (with Matt Sofo) the podcast. Lola is a highly sought after expert for speaking, nutrition consulting, cooking demonstrations and yoga classes. Lola is also very passionate about mental health and talks about it being the key to all elements of health. Lola's message is to be real, be kind and chase your dreams, no matter how big they are.
