066 | Why You Keep Breaking Your Promises to Yourself | Alive in 5

from Becoming Men · host Ray De La Nuez

Earlier this year you made a promise to yourself. Maybe it was a half-ass promise, but you made it nonetheless. You told yourself you would do something different this year. Remembering yet? You committed to building healthy habits and breaking destructive old ones. You said 2021 was going to be your year. But something happened, didn't it? Let me ask you this: Are you proud of who you've become so far? Or, after these last 10 months (yes, it's been that long) do you find yourself defeated in your efforts to change? Listen bro, foolishness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If you find yourself dissatisfied with the lack of change in your life then it's time to do something different. Notice I didn't ask you anything about your specific goal to run more, read more, workout more, drink less, curse less etc. I asked you a more important question. Who are you becoming? We are human beings, not human doings. You're not a machine that can be programed and left to do it's task. Your a thinking, breathing, emotional, irrational and at sometimes rational human (I said that correctly). If you truly want to see change in your life this year then you need to focus on becoming the type of man that can accomplish the things you want to achieve. A lazy man doesn't wake up one day and say he's going to run 3 times a week, but a runner does. An undisciplined man doesn't read 12 books a year, but a reader does. If you want to live the life that you've envisioned for yourself this year then you have to be more intentional about who you are becoming TODAY. It just so happens that the best way to do that is to bring others to come alongside of you. So let's bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be by the end of 2021.
