1 John 5:10-13 - So Simple Yet So Profound

Today, Wednesday September 15 So Simple, Yet So Profound 1 John 5:10-13 “Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. I’m amazed how God used different people with different personalities to give us His Holy Word. I’m convinced with all my heart that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God, especially after over a period of fifty years of being a follower of Jesus and reading the entire Bible through several hundred times and then also experiencing the reality of it in my everyday life. God is the author of the Bible. It is His Word which is eternal! (John 1:1-3) But He chose to give it to us through human writers that sometimes were so different in so many ways. Peter of course is one of the main personalities of the New Testament. He appears to be the spokesman for the rest of the disciples. He is a rough and tough fisherman. And when you read his epistles of First and Second Peter, you see how he primarily is focused on dealing with trials and tribulations and the need to grow in grace and to know Jesus better. (1 Peter 5:10) Notice the last words of his second letter; “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen”. (2 Peter 3:18) John, on the other hand seems to be a purest.  He is called the “beloved disciple”. He is always sitting closest to Jesus. It appears that John is the only disciple that stays at the cross with the women. He is the one that Jesus asked to take care of His mother Mary after His crucifixion and ascension. When you read the Gospel of John and his four letters (1, 2, 3 John and Revelation), you can see that John is consumed with who Jesus is! Jesus is the Son of God! Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. Jesus is eternal life! That’s why I believe that these four verses that we are reading and studying today, are the most simple but most profound verses in the Bible! John is making it very clear that it is really all about Jesus and your relationship to Him. If you have Jesus you have life! If you do not have Jesus you do not have life! (1 John 5:12) Either you have Jesus and believe He is the Son of God or you don’t! And when you believe and have Jesus you know that you have eternal life! (1 John 5:13) So simple, yet so profound and amazing! God bless!
