On 8 March 2017, 56 girls were locked in a classroom at their state-run children’s home just outside of Guatemala City, when a fire broke out. Only 15 girls survived the blaze. Four years later, no one has been sentenced for these crimes. We speak to members of Ocho Tijax, a women’s group caring for the girls’ families and the survivors and fighting their case in the courts. We hear about the stigma they continue to face, through attacks and the destruction of their memorial, but also about their powerful campaign #NosDuelen56 (We Mourn the 56): a global cry for justice through art.Vianney, the mother of Ashly Angelie Rodriguez Hernandez, who lost her life in the fire, tells us about her ongoing battle for accountability for her daughter's death.TW: This episode contains references to death and abuse and one instance of strong language.Women Resisting Violence is presented by Renata Peppl and produced by Louise Morris.Made through a partnership with King's College London and the Latin America Bureau.Featuring music by Rebeca Lane.Dubbed by Cecilia Cruz, Alma Carballo, Esmeralda Lobos and Larisa MuñozThis episode is also available in Spanish, and a Portuguese transcription can be found on our website. This podcast hopes to influence policy around gendered violence and highlight the lessons and voices of those working on the frontline - we’d be grateful if you could add a review and share it widely to help us achieve this. Please follow us and spread the word using #WomenResistingViolenceTw: @LatAmB Insta: @latinamericabureauHead to wrv.org.uk for more information about the project and follow the collective at facebook.com/8tijax.Get in touch: [email protected] by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Impact Acceleration Account held at King’s College London.    Hosted on Acast. The Sounds of the Rising Rochelle Hubbard The Sounds of the Rising is a space for women: a space for women to sit in conversation, and a space for those listening to hear the voices, the sounds, of the women who are rising. Women who are rising to the call to step into their truth, to remember, and know deeply inside of them their worth, and to claim the sovereignty, the freedom, and the resulting abundance that they are worthy of. Women are recognising, right now, in these times, the need to rewrite their stories and reclaim what is rightfully theirs. Here, in this space, we come together as we rise. Women Waken: Spiritual Healing for Trauma in Relationships to Shift from Codependency to Divine Feminine Whitney Walker My name is Whitney Walker, welcome to Women Waken! I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist specialising in substance abuse, addiction, eating disorders, trauma, and Spirituality. Over 10 years ago I walked into a therapist office for the first time because I realised that I felt incapable of handling life. I abused drugs and alcohol, had rock bottom self esteem, often felt suicidal, was very self destructive, and had no idea how to resolve what felt like a complete mess inside my mind and emotions. After years of therapy, getting sober, and choosing to begin the journey of unconditional self love for myself, things started to change. My self esteem rose along with my self regard and kindness towards myself. I knew there was only one thing I wanted to do with the rest of my life; help others out of the place that I was in and start figuring out how we can end these cycles for good, for all of us.
