Southwest airlines cancelled more than 2,600 flights yesterday. By comparison, Delta, United, American, and JetBlue had fewer than 200 cancellations combined yesterday, after frigid weather hit air travel hard over the Christmas weekend. The airport in Buffalo, New York remains closed, and so are most of its streets, while the death toll from the Christmas blizzard keeps rising. A new storm system is hammering the west this morning. It has knocked out power to more than 200,000 homes and businesses across California, Oregon and Washington state. The Supreme Court has decided, for now, to keep in place a controversial policy that allows border officials to quickly expel many migrants seeking asylum. The white house wants to end that pandemic-era policy. New York Congressman-elect George Santos says he's determined to be part of the new Congress, after admitting he lied about much of his background. But he faces growing criticism even from fellow Republicans about his deception. The Vatican says this morning that retired Pope Benedict's health is "Worsening," and Pope Francis is asking the faithful to pray for him. One of the leaders of a plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been sentenced to 16 years in prison. Adam Fox was convicted in august of conspiracy to kidnap, and conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. In Ukraine, officials say Russian forces shelled the maternity wing of a hospital in the southern city of Kherson yesterday. Early reports indicate no one was hurt. It was the latest in a wave of Russian artillery attacks on the city since Russian forces withdrew from the area in November.
