Summary
Holiday markets and festivals are great. The traffic we sit in to get to them is quite the opposite. If we built more of the walkable environments that we love (those which festivals replicate), we wouldn't have to sit in standstill traffic, merely to access them for a couple of hours. Also, U.S. traffic deaths are on the rise. It's a uniquely American predicament. Further context: The rise in U.S. traffic deaths (via NYT). The Columbus Zoo traffic jam, last weekend (via the Columbus Dispatch). Connecting with me, Brad: On Instagram. On TikTok. On LinkedIn.

Showcasing American examples of positive urban planning. Highlighting the relevance of urban planning in everyone's life. [00:05:33] "It's time that we start looking at traffic, not as this inevitable foregone conclusion, but rather as a choice of the built environment." [00:12:10] "No matter who you are, no matter how much money you make, no matter how you get around, you cannot escape the realities of urbanism, of urban planning and design." [00:12:27] "Understanding how urban planning works is crucial because so few of us do." [00:13:00] "We don't think about they were all intentionally designed by a person or a group of people throughout history."
