143 Maureen Cavanagh - Family-Focused Addiction Training

from Neff Inspiration · host Neff Inspiration

In 2014, Maureen realized that her beautiful, talented, brilliant daughter, Katie, was addicted to heroin. Despite the fact that she was an educator and had experienced addiction in her own family growing up, she didn’t recognize the signs and as Katie spiralled deeper into the dark world of substance use disorder Maureen could find no help for herself. She decided she would become the person she needed most and now provides and advocates for family support and education.    Maureen Cavanagh is the President of Magnolia New Beginnings, a national nonprofit and peers support group with over 25,000 members, and Magnolia Recovery and Consulting Services, both founded in 2012. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Maureen is a national public speaker on the parent perspective of addiction and the author of “If You Love Me: A Mother’s Journey Through Her Daughter’s Addiction and Recovery” published by Henry Holt/Macmillan in 2018. Maureen is the creator of the NAADAC approved Family-Focused Addiction Support Training (FAST) Program and consults on the creation and improvement of family wellness programs for those supporting a person with a substance use disorder. Maureen's 3 top tips:  1. Families can recover along with their loved ones 2. Communities can educate families which will have a positive impact on substance use disorder fatalities and recurrence of symptoms in their community.  3. There are resources for families and they do not need to do this alone.  [email protected] MaureenCavanagh.net MagnoliaNewBeginnings.org MagnoliaRecoveryResources.com In Maureen's words:  I am always happy to speak with families and introduce them to family coaching as well as pass on as many free resources to support them as possible including family meetings, online support groups and information.
