Ashley tries her best to give a brief history lesson on the inception of Mormonism hitting on the concepts of polygamy and blood atonement - a crucial prelude into her story of the Lafferty brothers. Ron and Dan Lafferty were 2 clean cut Mormon boys with a tumultuous, extreme Mormon upbringing. The brothers stumble upon doctrine that lead them off the deep end of extreme fundamentalism eventually getting them ex-communicated from the Mormon community. When Ron starts to receive “divine revelations” the brothers go on a quest to fulfill “God’s will” of blood atonement leaving a community devastated.
