#173 Blizzards and Tropical Storms.

from Growth Instigators Hotline · host Aaron Havens

Growth Instigators Hotline970.306.6432I’ve been in blizzards and tropical depressions.  Which one do you think is harder to drive in?Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day!  This is message #173 and I am Aaron Havens. So growing up in Southeastern Colorado I grew up with snow.  And when that snow meets winds on the planes, you have a blizzard.  I’m familiar with driving in blizzard conditions.  In fact I can remember at least two separate times my mom would have the front passenger door open watching for the side of the road while my dad would slowly drive forward.  Zero visibility.  Yet so quiet and calming in a strange way. Later in life I found myself living in Miami.  I thought I had seen rain before.  No rain is thicker and harder and more aggressive than a tropical storm or depression rain.  I found myself again in a scenario where visibility was zero.  Only this time is was much louder and my blood pressure was way high!  When you can’t even here single raindrops… when it sounds like a solid blanket of water just against your car… yeah, for me it was the opposite of calming!Obviously for me, I’d rather drive in a blizzard than in a tropical depression!  And mainly it was because of the difference in sound.  To me, snow is calming and rain is terrifying.  Both scenarios cab be devastating and require me staying calm.  Keep a cool head is key.  William James has a good quote, “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another."In the middle of your blizzards or tropical storms, what thoughts do you chose to remind you that this stress is temporary and that you can actually “drive on through this storm”?  When stress comes your way, do you tuck tail and run?  Maybe suck your thumb and hide in a corner?  Maybe freeze?  Do you throw the first punch?  The best time to overcome stress is before it even happens.  My friends, today may be a good day to come up with a game plan.  When the next “storm” or major stressor comes your way, how will you think… what will be your approach… what action steps will you live out?  If we can determine today what we need for tomorrow, then either snow or rain, we will know ourselves and have a higher chance of driving on through the storms! Thanks for calling in today.  Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic.  At the sound of the beep, what is your typically response to stress?  Is that working for you?  Please, I’d love hear a story about a stressful situation and how you responded to it. https://growthinstigators.com/
