In de tuin staat een hoop te gebeuren. De dood nadert wanneer de strijkers die Christus begeleiden steeds lager komen te liggen. Christus zingt hier zijn laagste noot van de Matthäus. En grote Thomas toont ons hoe Bach de verlossing alvast laat horen in een overgang van mineur naar majeur. In Matthäus-Passion, een lijdensweg met Gijs Groenteman en Thomas Oliemans bespreken de journalist en zanger samen met musicoloog Thomas de Jonker Bachs Matthäus-Passion. En dat doen ze uitgebreider dan ooit: 13 uur lang, in 69 in elkaar overlopende afleveringen wordt Bachs grootse meesterwerk volledig uitgeplozen.
