2/27 Rhode Island Weather 6 PM: Clear Skies

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. Folks, high pressure is sitting right on top of us like a warm blanket tonight. That's why you got all that gorgeous sunshine today. We climbed from 16 degrees this morning to 43 this afternoon. Twenty one degree swing. Five degrees above normal for late February. Not bad at all. In the next 24 hours. Providence topped out at 43 degrees under blue skies. Down at Narragansett Bay, a touch cooler at 40 with a southwest breeze around 7 miles an hour. That southerly flow is the key player here. It's pulling warmer air up from the mid Atlantic and setting us up for a fantastic Saturday. Tonight that high drifts east. Lows settle to 24 degrees in Providence, 28 near the Bay. One thing to watch. Patchy fog develops after 2 A.M. As moisture rides in on those south winds. If you're driving through low spots late, take it slow. Visibility could get sneaky. Saturday morning fog lingers before 9 A.M., then we clear out beautifully. Providence pushes to 51 degrees. The Bay hits 45. Perfect for a long walk along the waterfront. Now enjoy that. Because Sunday has a plot twist. A cold front barrels through with snow likely between 7 A.M. and 11 A.M., mixing over to rain. An inch or two of accumulation, nothing dramatic. The real punch comes after. Arctic air crashes in Sunday night. Lows plummet to 12 degrees. Monday's high barely reaches 27. Wind chills near zero by Monday morning. That's the kind of cold that stings your lungs. The back half of next week warms up but gets soggy. Rain chances build Tuesday night into Wednesday. Spring equinox is three weeks out, but winter clearly read the calendar and decided to argue. Charge your phone tonight and keep those gloves handy for Sunday. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
