2/28 Connecticut Weather Noon: Clear Skies

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly. Fifty-two degrees right now. That's the headline. We're sitting ten degrees above normal for late February. and if you've outdoor plans today, this is your golden ticket. It's sunny, calm. and about as nice as it gets. In the next 24 hours. Here's the breakdown. Coastal Connecticut hits 48 degrees. Central Connecticut reaches 47. Eastern areas top out at 45. Not bad for the last day of meteorological winter. But An Arctic front is bearing down on us. Tonight, clouds roll in and temperatures crash into the mid-twenties. You might even see patchy fog develop along the coast between eleven P.M. and midnight. Sunday brings a rude awakening. Light snow spreads from west to east starting around seven A.M. and continues through the afternoon. Central Connecticut sees the most action, with one to two inches possible. Coastal and eastern areas pick up a dusting to half an inch. Highs only reach the mid-thirties. The real story is Sunday night. That Arctic air mass settles overhead. Lows plummet to nine degrees in central Connecticut. Eleven in the east. Thirteen along the coast. Wind chills dip to near zero inland. That's bitter cold for March standards. Monday stays frigid but sunny, with highs only around 30 degrees. Looking ahead. Tuesday temperatures rebound into the low forties with a rain-snow mix. Wednesday through Friday, we climb into the upper forties to near 50. but it turns wet, with off-and-on rain chances each day. Spring is about two weeks away, but winter is making one last stand this weekend. Sunrise at 6:28, sunset at 5:40. Get those errands done today. You'll not want to be outside tomorrow night. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
