2/28 Rhode Island Weather 6 PM: Clear Skies

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good evening. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, if you stepped outside today and thought. That feels pretty nice? You're right. We hit 46 degrees. Eight degrees above normal for late February. Soak up that memory, because the jet stream is buckling south right now, dragging a slab of Canadian Arctic air straight toward us like a freight train with no brakes. In the next 24 hours. Tonight stays quiet. Partly cloudy, lows near 27 degrees. Light winds. Narragansett Bay might catch a brief sprinkle around 9 P.M., but nothing worth grabbing an umbrella for. Sunday is the plot twist. Light snow slides into Providence after 8 A.M., reaching the Bay by late morning. About an inch statewide. Dry air aloft keeps the totals modest. Snow wraps up by early evening as the Arctic front bulldozes through. Then the bottom drops out. Sunday night. Providence crashes to 10 degrees. The Bay holds at 13. Monday morning? Wind chills dip below zero across interior Rhode Island. That's the kind of cold that stings your face in seconds. Highs Monday barely scratch 28 degrees. Now the week ahead tells a wild story. Monday and Tuesday morning stay locked in that deep freeze. Then everything flips. Tuesday afternoon jumps to 42 degrees with rain and snow mixing by late morning. Wednesday surges to 49 with lingering showers. Thursday and Friday hover in the upper 40s with periodic rain chances. Fronts keep stalling nearby, so keep that umbrella handy all week. One bright spot. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight every day now. Sunrise today was 6:24 A.M., sunset at 5:35 P.M. Spring equinox is just two weeks out. Charge your phone, check your antifreeze. and dig out the heavy coat tonight. You'll need all three by Monday morning. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
