2: The Shack (2017)
from The Deep Dive Podcast · host Canto34 Studios
Todays movie is arguably one of the biggest religious movies to have come out since Heaven is For Real and like that movie, it’s based off a best-selling book that shockingly appealed to both Christian and non-Christian audiences. On paper this movie has a great premise and even though I haven’t watched it until preparing for this Podcast…mainly out fear of being disappointed…I truly have wanted to watch it for some time now. It follows the story of Mac, played by Sam Worthington, who from the beginning is portrayed as a great yet troubled, fun-loving Christian husband and father of three. While his understanding of the Christian faith seems surface level and even muddled from the start, his world and faith in God is shattered when during a freak accident, his 8 year old daughter ends up being abducted and later found to be murdered. Mac struggles to pull himself together in the aftermath and understandably holds a great deal of anger towards God for allowing this to happen. One Day, Mac receives a note purportedly from God requesting him to return to the shack where his daughter was allegedly killed. Skeptical, Mac does so… and after steeling Tim McGraw’s Ford Bronco…he arrives at the Shack and finds himself surrounded by the Holy Trinity….The Father…depicted as a woman? Son and Holy Spirit who are all presented in human form. Mac now is given the opportunity to question God directly and get his deepest and most painful questions answered. Now, with that heavy and interesting plot, does this movie answer the tough and sensitive existential questions purposed in a effective and interesting way or does it fail in an attempt to please both Christian and non Christian audiences? Today on The Deep Dive Podcast we seek to answer these questions as we do a deep dive into the 2017 religious drama….The Shack. Send us Fan MailYou can reach out to us via Social Media: Click Here
