237: Losing the Baby Weight After 5 Kids // Intermittent Fasting While Breastfeeding

from Now That We're A Family · host Elisha and Katie Voetberg

What is Katie’s new intermittent fasting regiment now that she is postpartum? Is Katie able to keep up with her milk supply and workouts? What is her energy level like with her current fasting schedule? These are questions that I have been getting quite frequently. Today I will be answering them to satisfy your curiosity, as well as a few others… :) I feel like this is a little taboo, because whenever you’re talking about restricting anything in pregnancy or postpartum, you can’t recommend that. This is one of the podcasts that we will say, “we can’t recommend it, but…this is what we do anyway.” A lot of evidence that I will be presenting is going to be anecdotal. I’m just going to show you what my experience has been. I feel like it was very helpful for me when I was searching YouTube trying to find podcasts to learn “how can I lose weight postpartum and still keep my milk supply strong?” that I was basically just listening to other women’s stories. I didn’t want a doctor telling me what I could and couldn’t do. I wanted to hear from different women what has worked for them. While this is anecdotal, it is what I have copied from a lot of other women online who also cannot recommend what they are doing, but have had the same results. Something else I want to say upfront is that when it comes to weight loss or “getting your body back” or whatever postpartum, my motive behind this is to make having children sustainable. I love our children and love raising them. Pregnancy is hard on your body though. I want to do whatever I can to stay healthy and in shape for if God allows us to have more children down the road. This episode isn’t just about weight loss. It is also about energy and hormone management. All of those things are affected by our overall health. This is why it was important for me to do an episode on this. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
