August 1987

from Heavy Metal History: The Podcast · host Dustin K.

Welcome to this weeks episode of Heavy Metal History. This week we venture ever forward into August of 1987. This is the month the Black Metal genre as we know it came into existence with the Mayhem EP "Deathcrush" forever changing the landscape of not only the underground metal scene, but how metal as a whole would be viewed for decades onward. Then we talk some new releases that have come out over the past couple weeks and what Matt and I thought of them (Hint, theyre all fantastic) And finally, we end on Cacophony's "Speed Metal Symphony" and album that showcases two of the best virtuoso guitar players to ever live, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman. With that album comes a tragic tale of Jason Becker and his diagnosis of ALS and how he continues to write music and maintain his positive attitude to this day! Albums we discussed this week:Mayhem - "Deathcrush EP"Cacophony - "Speed Metal Symphony"Follow the Podcast!Facebook InstagramYouTube
