Local news is in decline across Canada, and this is bad news for all of us, with less local news, noise, rumors, and misinformation fill the void, and it gets harder to separate truths from fiction. That's why CBC News is putting more journalists in more places across Canada, reporting on the ground from where you live, telling the stories that matter to all of us, because local news is big news. Choose news, not noise. CBC News.
The internet defines a dream as a cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal. It's more than something that was thought of on a whim. A dream is something that percolates within you, something that you value, cherish. I believe dreams are part of us, something deeply connected to the core of who we are.
Goals are the stepping stones of our dreams, practical and attainable. Why do they matter? Dreams and goals provide a sense of direction and purpose to life. It's easy to simply exist and not live.
I believe dreams and goals are such a beautiful part of fully living. It adds a pep in your step and vision for your everyday life. When you have a dream, you walk through life differently. Dreams impact your actions, influence your choices, and ground your decisions.
That feels we get older, it's easier to dismiss dreams. We leave it in our childhood or teen years and treat it in for adulting, never allowing the dreams within us to have a chance. But what if we allowed ourselves to dream where we are, not letting the limitations of our circumstances determine what or how we dream, what if we shook off the pressure of what a dream is supposed to be or look like, and had fun, allowing ourselves to let the deeply cherished ideals or aspirations breathe in our hearts anew? I believe no dream is too big or too small.
A dream of baking a chocolate cake from scratch is just as valid a dream as influencing a low-income neighborhood or impacting politicians. A dream for you may not be a dream for me, and obviously that's beyond okay. It's how it should be. I have many dreams, my list of over a hundred dreams.
Some of them are legacy dreams, something that my children's children will carry out, dreams I may not see happen. Some of them are random and probably near impossible or silly, like being best friends with Adele. Yes, a real dream of mine on my list. Other dreams are deeply connected to what I believe is my purpose in life.
Either way, that list took time. It took me giving myself permission to dream where I am. Whether you have one dream or 10,000, every single one of them matters and are invited to show up and unfold in your everyday life. And every time we dream and watch it be fulfilled, we're invited to dream again and to dream bigger and deeper than the last time.
Now you may be hearing this thinking, well, that's great today. Really glad you have a massive list of dreams, but I don't even know how to or where to start. That's so real. If you're hearing this and feel you no longer have the capacity to dream or feel like you're past your prime for dreaming, let me tell you something.
You are never too late or too old to dream. You're never incapable of caring a dream. So long as you have a breath in your lungs, you can dream. The first thing I'd encourage you to do is ask yourself, when did you stop giving yourself permission to dream?
At what point in your life did the deeply cherished aspirations you had in your heart cease to exist? Go back to that moment, face that moment, forgive that moment, release that moment. Next, I'd encourage you to ask yourself, what was the last thing you really wanted to do or see happen? Start there.
Dreaming again, dreaming new dreams is a process. It doesn't happen overnight. Dreams shift and morph. They've been flow through seasons.
But understand this, dreaming and pursuing dreams is not a sprint. It's a marathon and there's so much joy and grounding in the journey. You may find during this month that, hey, my dream for this year is to dream again. And that is amazing.
My heart swells at the thought of that. It's a beautiful place to be to allow yourself to dream again and go on the journey of discovering what stopped you and how to start again. Whichever space you find yourself in, know that you're not alone on this journey. We here at This Wonder's Life are rooting for you, believing that you can dream again, sustaining and thriving in the process.
You've just listened to the post titled Dreams and Goals Why They Matter by today Smith of This Wonder's Life.com. Before we start, I want to share a super powerful practice I use called NSDR or non-sleep-deep rest. In just about 10 minutes or so, this yoga-neasior practice leaves you feeling as refreshed as after a nap without actually sleeping. Experience it for yourself on our guided podcast.
Search NSDR and look for the one from Optimal Living Daily. I'm constantly thinking about how to optimize my health, what supplements to take, hours of sleep, what my diet should focus on. Superpower finally takes the guessing out of it. One simple lab test covers over 100 biomarkers, and their app gives you a complete picture of your heart, liver, hormones, metabolism, even environmental toxins.
Plus, it used to cost $499. Right now, it's just $199. And head to superpower.com and use code OLD at checkout for an additional $20 off your membership. Thank you to Denae, as with most good things in life or habits we want to build and work on, it is definitely a marathon built up over time instead of a sprint that applies to our fitness, diet, pretty much anything health-related, money management, minimalism, and our dreams as Denae mentioned.
I do think they're important. I feel like without dreams, we lose that passion to move forward. It's possible we get overwhelmed in certain periods of life or feel unmotivated. Maybe forget to think about those dreams, but I think they're important to come back to.
Talking about them, sharing them with others, writing them down, maybe even just listening to articles like these. Any of these hopefully can ignite that spark again if it's lost for you. And if it's not, just a little reminder to keep working towards those dreams. It's something I have to remember too.
So thank you to Denae for the reminder. Thank you for being here. Have a great rest of your day, and I'll see you tomorrow for the Friday show, where your optimal life awaits.
