3/1 Connecticut Weather 6 AM: 10° Below Normal

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good morning. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly. Happy meteorological spring, folks. Now. Don't look outside just yet. An Arctic cold front is knifing through the state as we speak. It brought snow with it. and it's dragging in the coldest air we've seen in weeks. In the next 24 hours. That snow cranked up around 6 A.M. Across central Connecticut. Hartford. Middletown, that whole corridor picks up 1 to 2 inches before it tapers off by midday. Enough to coat the roads and make your morning commute slippery. Along the coast and out east toward New London? Lighter stuff. Under an inch. It peaks mid morning and fizzles by early afternoon. Highs today barely scratch the mid 30s. That's a solid 10 degrees below where we should be on March 1st. Not exactly the spring welcome wagon. But the real gut punch comes tonight. Once the sun drops, that Arctic air floods in like someone left the freezer door open. Central Connecticut crashes to 6 degrees by early Monday morning. Wind chills dip to minus S Two. That's the kind of cold that stings your lungs. The coast holds a little better. 12 to 14 degrees. but feels like temps still land in the single digits. Monday gives you sunshine. Gorgeous, actually. but don't be fooled. Highs stall near 30 degrees statewide. Wind chills hang in the teens all day long. Now the week ahead tells a different story. Tuesday starts with snow, then flips to freezing rain, then plain rain as highs climb into the upper 30s. Wednesday through Friday? We go full mud season. Highs push into the mid 40s and low 50s with rain chances each day. and by next weekend, mid 50s are on the table. Spring does show up. Just fashionably late. Keep those winter coats handy today. By Friday you mightn't need them. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
