3/1 Rhode Island Weather Noon: Snow Starting 11 AM

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. Meteorological spring starts today. Rhode Island is celebrating with an Arctic cold front. Happy spring. Here's some snow. In the next 24 hours. Right now. Canadian air is bulldozing south across the state. It's pushing a thin band of moisture ahead of it. and that means light snow between 11 A.M. and 2 P.M. Across Providence. Down along Narragansett Bay, snow lingers until 3 P.M. With north winds gusting to 26 miles an hour. We're talking a dusting to an inch. Nothing dramatic. Just enough to remind you who's still in charge. Highs hit 35 degrees early, then temperatures actually fall through the afternoon. By dinnertime you're looking at 29 degrees. That's the front doing its work. Tonight is the real story. Once skies clear, the bottom drops out. Providence plunges to 6 degrees by 6 A.M. Wind chills near minus 3. That's the kind of cold where your car door handle stings. Along the Bay, you bottom out around 11 degrees with wind chills near zero. North winds hold at 8 to 13 miles an hour all night. Monday brings wall to wall sunshine but zero warmth. Highs struggle to reach 28 or 29 degrees. Wind chills sit in the low 20s all day. Monday night, 13 degrees inland, 19 along the coast. Now the plot twist. Tuesday morning starts brutal. Single digits and low teens. Then a weak low slides in Tuesday afternoon, turning snow to freezing rain to plain rain as temperatures climb to 41 degrees. Wednesday pushes into the mid 40s with rain likely. and by late week? Upper 40s, maybe touching 50. Winter's grip finally loosens. If your pipes made it through January, don't let them down now. Let the faucets drip tonight. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
