3/3 Connecticut Weather 6 AM: Winter Weather Advisory

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good morning. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly. That bright blue sky you're seeing right now? It's a bit of a trap. We're waking up to a crisp 30 degrees under high pressure. But don't let the sunshine fool you. A warm front is lifting north from the Mid-Atlantic, riding right over this dense cold air parked at the surface. That sets the stage for a messy day. In the next 24 hours. Snow arrives statewide between 10 A.M. and noon. From there, the story splits across the state. Coastal Connecticut sees a quick transition to rain by this afternoon, topping out at 37 degrees. Central Connecticut holds onto the cold longer. You'll see snow transition to freezing rain by evening with a high of just 33 degrees. Eastern Connecticut lands somewhere in the middle at 38 degrees, dealing with a rain-snow mix. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 A.M. To 10 P.M. For northern Fairfield. Middlesex. New Haven. And New London counties. Watch for ice buildup up to a tenth of an inch. That evening commute could be slick, especially inland. Tonight, rain continues with lows hovering between 30 and 33 degrees. You might see some patchy fog develop as well. Wednesday brings the payoff. Sunshine returns with highs surging into the upper 40s to mid 50s. Central Connecticut could hit 54 degrees. Just watch for black ice early Wednesday morning before the thaw kicks in. Looking ahead, rain returns Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid 40s. Then the pattern really shifts. Saturday hits the low 50s. Sunday and Monday? We're talking upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Spring is knocking on the door. I'd check your tire tread before that evening drive. That ice can sneak up on you. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
