3/3 Ohio Weather 6 AM: Flood Watch

from The Ohio Weather Podcast

Good morning. Ohio. I'm Aaron Jolly. Ohio woke up to a light dusting of snow. Cute. Forget about it. Because a warm front is barreling up the Ohio Valley right now, dragging air so loaded with moisture it belongs in May, not early March. We're talking two to three times the normal moisture for this time of year. A legitimate soaker is heading our way. In the next 24 hours. Northeast Ohio, you've got the roughest commute. Freezing rain is glazing up windshields and bridges through 10 A.M. There's a Winter Weather Advisory around Cleveland and Akron until then. That slick stuff transitions to plain rain once temperatures climb. Drive slow this morning. Seriously. Slide southwest to Cincinnati and rain's already falling. Highs hit 55 degrees with one to two inches of rain possible by tomorrow morning. Columbus splits the difference at 49 degrees. Rain peaks around 1 P.M. There. Grab the umbrella, not the snow brush. Tonight the front stalls out and just. Sits on us. Rain keeps going for most of the state. Central and southwest Ohio hold in the mid 40s overnight. Northeast Ohio dips to 35 degrees with rain finally easing by 9 P.M. Wednesday reloads. Columbus pushes 57 degrees. Cincinnati hits 63. Thunderstorms join the party by afternoon. That warm, heavy air has to go somewhere. Now the week ahead gets wild. Thursday jumps to 67 degrees. Friday pushes 73. Both bring more rain and thunder. Saturday could touch 74 degrees before a cold front finally muscles through. That's mid April warmth, folks. Sunday clears out, still pleasant in the mid 60s. Keep an eye on those storm chances Thursday through Saturday though. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Spring's not waiting for the equinox. Charge your phone tonight. Storm alerts might be buzzing later this week. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
