3/3 Rhode Island Weather 6 AM: Winter Weather Advisory

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good morning. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. That clear blue sky overhead is beautiful, folks, but don't let it fool you. We're sitting at a brisk 30 degrees right now. But here's the thing: high pressure is sliding offshore. That means the quiet weather is exiting stage left. A disturbance is racing in from the west with a surge of moisture. When that warm air rides over our cold ground, you get a messy mix. In the next 24 hours. Snow arrives statewide between 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. Providence will see snow transition to sleet, then rain by late afternoon. You'll hit a high near 33 degrees. Don't expect much accumulation, though. Less than an inch. Down along Narragansett Bay, it's a touch milder at 35 degrees. The bay makes the switch to rain faster there, with southeast winds picking up to 10 miles an hour. Tonight, the rain continues and patchy fog develops. Lows hold steady between 33 and 35 degrees. That hovering temperature is a problem. It means untreated surfaces could turn icy, especially northwest of I-Ninety-Five. Watch out for black ice on Wednesday morning. Once the fog burns off, sunshine takes over. And wow, do we warm up. Providence surges to 55 degrees. The bay hits 49. That's a 30 degrees-degree jump from today. Thursday brings another chance of rain with highs near 45. Friday looks wet and raw at 42 degrees. Then the weekend turns mild. Saturday hits 53. Sunday reaches 58. And Monday could touch 61 degrees. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight today. The spring equinox is just two weeks away. Tonight's full moon shines through breaking clouds after midnight. Check your tires before the morning commute. That black ice can be sneaky. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
