3 John 1:1-4 - A Wonderful Testimony

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Wednesday October 13 A Wonderful Testimony 3 John 1:1-4 “The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth: Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” The Apostle John wrote this letter specifically to his friend Gaius to encourage and honor him for his wonderful testimony in the local church and community where he lived. Yesterday we talked about how Gaius had a soul that prospers because he was in intimate fellowship with the Lord through the Word and prayer. Today we want to acknowledge his powerful testimony and witness to those around him. From the context of this scripture we notice that someone from the church, or some travelers who had passed through the church or community where Gaius lived, must have been ministered to by him. And they later had the opportunity to share this experience with the Apostle John. And then John takes the time to sit down and write a letter to Gaius that becomes a part of the greatest Book in human history. Everyone has a testimony or a witness. Some have a good testimony and some have a bad one. When Jesus called his original twelve to follow Him, it was for the purpose of preparing them to be a witness to the world about who Jesus is and what He did for everyone through His life, His death and His resurrection. (Acts 1:8) Jesus told them they would be witnesses unto Him both in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth! So here we find Gaius being a witness in the “uttermost”, probably somewhere in Asia Minor. Someone told John about the excellent witness that Gaius was. We never know how far our witness to the world might go. Here we are two thousand years later and we are hearing and reading about the witness of Gaius. He never dreamed as he obediently served the Lord in his local church that his witness would have such a lasting and great impact on the future world! Jesus said, “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men”. Are you following Jesus today? Are you a witness to His love, His peace and His great salvation to those around you? If we are not “catching” anyone for Jesus we might need to look at how closely we are following Jesus. Both our daily walk and our talk should testify that Jesus is the center of our lives to our family, friends and associates! May the Lord help us to be a “witness” like Gaius that really make an eternal difference in this world in which we live today! God bless!
