Hello from CNN, I'm a former DK, with the five things you need to know for Wednesday, August 21st. Vice President Kamala Harris is back in Chicago for day three of the Democratic National Convention after campaigning in Wisconsin last night. The Democratic presidential nominee is expected to formally accept an nomination tomorrow and get a speech. That's a night, preventing the testimony, and is expected to accept the party's nomination for Vice President.
CNN's David Meine is more. So, a phone that says Tim Wallace's night here in Chicago is a continuous introduced himself to the American people. The campaign says Wallace is going to talk about his path to the VP nomination starting with his childhood growing up in rural Nebraska. Jane Cloud is at state's Democratic party chair.
She told me his rise has fired up voters in her state. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump and Jay Vance have been holding events at different battleground states this week. Today, they have events scheduled in North Carolina. The latest talks for the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and Gaza are taking place in Cairo today.
U.S. government officials are hearing out the final details of an agreement that bridges the gas between both sides. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken traveled to the Middle East for the negotiations, and other U.S. officials have declined to lay out what's in the proposal.
But the deal of structure and three phases that would eventually include Israeli soldiers in Gaza. However, according to reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told families of hostages to Saudi Gaza that he'll keep some troops along the Egypt-Gossip Order and the necessary corridor, calling them quote, to the technical and political assets. Regardless, Blinken says Israel has agreed to the withdrawal terms, but Hamas continues to say Israel is standing in the way of a resolution. The virus found for a bias today as rescue researchers were those missing from the superiac that sank off the pulse of Sicily earlier this week.
Another body was retrieved yesterday. Few other details were nearly available, and it's not clear who was recovered. Twenty-two people were on board the vessel when it's masked. One of the world's tallest, broken half-ring about in storm.
Fifteen people were rescued and one is still missing. Rescue efforts are complicated by the short-time divers can spend on the rec site, which is thought to be about 150 feet underwater. Italy's fire brigade site divers only have up to 12 minutes to reach an export site before having to resurface. Three staff members of the high school investing over killed on Wednesday on a school employee shot them and then tried to take his own life.
That's according to the police, who set an investigation in his underway. He's been seven million private hands from boards in the 1990s. Coming up, more COVID complications. Hey, welcome back.
A new study shows as of your case of COVID-19, could put someone in increased risk of mental illness. Set a suppression anxiety in PTSD. I have to see an extra downward outside the compound. A foam of the incidence of mental illness was much higher in the weeks after COVID-19 diagnosis in this new study, but that increased incidence was even more elevated in people who were not vaccinated versus those who had been vaccinated.
And the elevated incidence was mostly seen after severe infections. So if you look at the incidence of depression, for instance, that was up to 1.2 times higher in people with COVID who were not hospitalized, but up to 16 times higher in people who were hospitalized. Now there is one caveat that the foam of this study will get data from 2020 and 2021. So it will be interesting to see whether the findings would be the same today in 2024.
That's all for now. I'll be back at 6am soon.
