Muitas pessoas não sabem, mas registros históricos confirmam: Confúcio era um excelente cantor. Shi Jing 诗经 , o "Clássico da Poesia" é a mais antiga coleção existente de poemas chineses. E adivinhem? Confúcio se dedicou a criar melodias para todos os 305 poemas compilados no Clássico. Assim, dono de uma capacidade musical invejável, uma das últimas coisas que Confúcio fez antes de falecer foi compor uma canção sobre si mesmo e cantá-la em um campo aberto olhando o nascer do sol. Na canção ele diz que a montanha Tai (泰山), que é uma das cinco maiores montanhas da China e muitas vezes tida como sagrada, está prestes a desabar. Segue cantando que o "alto pilar" está se quebrando e, por fim, que o filósofo "silencioso e debilitado" está murchando. Alguns dias depois Confúcio morreu, deixando o sol da manhã eternamente grato por ter sido a plateia de sua última canção. Uma canção de glória e triunfo cantada sobre alguém que não desperdiçou a vida tendo plena consciência de quem era e do destino que ele havia terminado de cumprir com sucesso.
