#40 Multipurpose vs Single Purpose
from Toasting Design · host SoMIAE
A screw driver can be used for a number of different applications and very few of them were envisaged. While it may be overkill I think it adds a little something extra (grease?) when you use one to butter your toast. So why are we not designing our screw drivers to butter your toast, slap that annoying mosquito or act as a powerbank for your cellphone? Alternatively why is your cellphone not just for phone calls, why not use a proper dedicated mirrorless digital camera, ultrabook and kindle reader instead and keep the cellphone as just a phone? Also who else is not able to say multipurpose without hearing multi-pass and then recalling that scene from The Fifth Element? Just me? Hosted by M. Boer and S. Schekman on 7 Apr 2020
