The story centers on the hardened, unnamed Sergeant (played by Lee Marvin) and four young soldiers under his command—Griff (Mark Hamill), Zab (Robert Carradine), Vinci (Bobby Di Cicco), and Johnson (Kelly Ward). They endure the brutality and horror of major WWII campaigns, including the invasion of Sicily, the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and the liberation of a Nazi concentration camp.
