Learn more at aboutamazon.ca Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Wednesday, October 30th. Vice President Kamala Harris used her closing argument speech to warn Americans about what the White House would be like under former President Donald Trump. This is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance, and out for unchecked power.
She spoke at the same place Trump told his supporters on January 6th to, quote, fight like hell before they ransacked the U.S. Capitol in 2021. Harris compared her policy plans with Trump's, hitting them as opposites on Medicare, reproductive rights, and foreign policy. She also criticized Trump for dividing the country with his rhetoric about people who don't support him.
I'm not perfect, I make mistakes, but here's what I promise you. I will always listen to you, even if you don't vote for me. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden got himself into hot water just before Harris' speech. Over these comments he made about the recent floating island of garbage remark made about Puerto Rico by a comedian at Trump's Madison Square Garden events.
The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization is unconscionable, and it's un-American. After backlash online from Republicans, Biden and his team said the comments were meant to refer to the comedian's rhetoric about Latinos being garbage, not Trump supporters. Trump addressed Biden's comments at his own event in Pennsylvania last night.
That's terrible, but he doesn't know you have to. Please forgive him. Please forgive him, for he not knoweth what he said. After dealing with days of backlash for the controversial comments made at his Madison Square Garden event on Sunday, Biden's gaff could have had Trump an assist.
Trump also addressed the comedian who made the original remarks in an interview with Fox News. I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but I don't want anybody making nasty jokes or stupid jokes. I probably shouldn't have been there. There's been international condemnation of an Israeli airstrike that's killed dozens of people in northern Gaza.
Palestinian authorities say more than 90 people have died after a multi-story building was hit, with the UN saying it's one of Israel's deadliest single attacks in nearly three months. The Israeli military says it was targeting what it described as a suspected terrorist, and is, quote, trying to understand why so many people were in the area at the time. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller says the U.S. is deeply concerned by the loss of civilian lives.
This is a horrifying incident, with a horrifying result. I can't speak to the total death toll, but there are reports of two dozen children killed in this incident. No doubt a number of them are children who have been fleeing the effects of this war for more than a year now. A Chicago man is facing 14 felony charges, after officials say he shot a man walking to a synagogue, and then shot at responding police and paramedics.
Police say the 22-year-old fired several shots at a 39-year-old Jewish man over the weekend. The shooting victim has since been released from hospital, and some Jewish leaders are calling for hate crime charges. Police say the motive is still under investigation, and the suspect has not been able to be interviewed because of his injuries. Coming up, we'll bring you the latest excitement from the World Series.
The New York Yankees are clinging on. They stopped the LA Dodgers from taking the World Series title last night, and won in Game 4. CNN Sports Andy Schultz has more. Freddie Freeman homered yet again for the Dodgers.
His record six-straight World Series game with a home run, but the New York offense finally came alive. Anthony Volpe, the native New Yorker, with a grand slam in the third inning to give the Yankees the lead. New Yorker then go on to win 11-4. The Yankees just the fourth team ever down 0-3 in the World Series to force a Game 5.
No team has ever forced a Game 6. Tonight, it's Garrett Cole on the mound for the Yankees in Game 5. Jack Clarity for the Dodgers. That's all for now.
I'll be back with more news at 9 a.m. Eastern.
