As conversion is a continuously progressive process, our commitment and dedication to the Lord are also gradually cumulative. Consequently, we sing choruses and make statements about belonging to Jesus in the future progressive tense. In other words, only a portion of our life is committed wholly to the Lord, while a much more significant portion is consumed with self-care and personal ambitions. Over time, every elect child of God will come to the place of saying, "Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine."
