7 Ways To Spark Conversations
Summary
Are you ever at a party or team meeting, or even at the dinner table and it's hard to get past the small talk? Most conversations are centered around "how's it going?" or "What's new?" and a lot of times these conversations don't go anywhere. This is where our Grateful Decks can help! With 2 decks to choose from (Friends And Family Edition, Student Edition, each deck contains 120 questions to start conversations that matter. So the days of not knowing what to talk about will be a thing of the past. Here are 7 ideas of how you can use the decks. If you have other ideas, please reply back and let us know. 1) Dinner Table - Put your phones away (you should do this anyway), and keep the Friends And Family Deck at the center of the table. Go around the dinner table and have each person pick a card from the deck and answer it. 2) Start A Meeting - what a way to start a meeting. Draw one card and have everyone answer it. It will be a great way to build those connections at work and to get to know each other better on a personal level. 3) Road Trip - Take a deck with you in the car and use it to get the kids off their phones or to break the silence. I've used them for long car rides and they make the drive go faster. 4) BBQ - If your friends and family are getting together for a party or BBQ, take a few cards with you to deepen the conversation. 5) At School - If you're a teacher, set aside a few minutes each day to draw a card from the Student Deck and have your students take turns answering. It's a great way to get your students to open up more. (TIP: Great unique gift to give teachers at the beginning or end of the school year.) 6) Date Night - Break out the Friends and Family Deck and turn date night into a fun way to get to know your significant other better. 7) Virtually From A Distance - Lots of workplaces and schools are going virtually these days. Start up a conversation using one of the prompts from the Friends and Family or Student Decks to connect better from a distance.

Todd Mizener
Photojournalism on the radio...sort of. The photography centric podcast is hosted by veteran photojournalist Todd Mizener with help from fellow photogs Todd Welvaert and Meg McLaughlin. Our goal is to both entertain and inform with our personal experiences or via interviews with a wide variety of guests. Mizener is the former Director of Photography for the Dispatch/Argus, a mid-sized daily newspaper, located in western Illinois along the banks of the Mississippi River in Moline, Ill. He is currently the Marketing & Communications Director for the D/A and Quad-City Times. We all get asked questions about our jobs and the podcast lets us answer some of those questions. It also affords us the opportunity to connect with readers, aspiring photographers, and learn a thing or two from our guests. The podcast is also an extension of our historically strong intern teaching program. Please email your questions and/or topic suggestions to talkingpicspodcast@gmail.com and don’t forget to tune e
