LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR In honour of their contribution to tackling global hunger in 2020 in the midst of continued conflict, famine and the Covid-19 pandemic the World Food Programme has been honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize. Assist News reports that, in his acceptance speech last December at their headquarters in Rome, World Food Programme Executive Director and a committed Christian David Beasley shared his inspiration from the teachings of Jesus to love your neighbour. He stated: “Dr King, Nobel Laureate in 1964 said, ‘Love is the most durable power in the world.’ “Like Dr. King, from a very young age, I learned this teaching from Jesus of Nazareth, as he taught from the Torah: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” I have come to understand that a better translation of what Jesus actually said is: ‘Love your neighbour as your equal.’”VACCINATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINESThe Philippines' health ministry has welcomed the offer of the country's group of Catholic bishops to help in the coronavirus vaccination drive of the government, which is struggling to persuade many Filipinos to get the shots. According to Premier Christian News, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines has offered to transform church facilities in the country into COVID-19 vaccination sites, and said its members were also willing to get vaccinated in public to help build confidence in the campaign.ROYAL PURPLE CLOTHThe Christian Post reports that rare purple cloth scraps from the era dating back to the time of King David and King Solomon, approximately 3,000 years ago, have been discovered in Israel. Researchers in southern Israel found the remnants of woven wool fabric that had been dyed the colour of royal purple while examining textiles from the Timna valley.
