8. Going Inside Project - Hannah

from Going Inside Project · host Celia Clark

Today we meet Hannah. Hannah has some understanding of Parts and this is her first 1:1 session focusing on Parts. Please note my mic was playing up, but this is such a great session we felt we should still share it! WHO SHOWED UP… Key Parts A Part who doesn’t trust Hannah A Part that feels sadness around the lack of trust A Part who lies as it fears all that will be left will be the ED. Other Parts A Part who believes Hannah is recovered A Part who wants to be an advocate for health A Part who feels an imposter A Part that feels proud of putting in the work towards recovery A Part who is angry about progress towards health A Part who is critical of progress towards health (How could you let yourself go?) A Part that has concerns around food scarcity A Part who uses alcohol to inhibit judgement A Part who feels a lack of control around food A Part who is grieving for time lost A Part that carries shame and guilt around binge eating. WHAT I NOTICED… I was struck by the journey Hannah has been on and the progress she has made. As she explored her Parts I noticed the differing positions of these Parts and the tension that this creates inside for her. I was aware of the huge compassion for both the Part who doesn’t trust and the Part who has lied in the past. I had a Part who wanted to come in and rescue and sooth the sadness. I had to work hard to ask this Part to settle back as I knew Hannah would be best placed to meet their needs. WHAT I’D DO DIFFERENTLY… There was a key polarisation between the Part who doesn’t trust and the Part who lies. I would have liked to have made this more explicit. My system reacted to the Part being called the Lying Part. I had a Part who felt this was unjust and although this may have been ‘my stuff’ I would have preferred to have checked in with Hannah to see if the Part may have wanted a different name. Since the session, Hannah has noticed a greater sense of grounding within herself. "This is incredibly important work and I'm excited to continue exploring and deepening my understanding of myself and others".
