98. Big Thunder Mountain History - Part 15 - Tokyo Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain (Part 1)
Is Tokyo Disneyland's Big Thunder really just a copy of the U.S. Disney parks? On this episode of Distory, we head overseas to the wilds of Westernland in Tokyo Disneyland to attempt to dig up some history of Disney’s third iteration of Big Thunder Mountain. Along the way, we briefly discuss how this park came to be, find some new mining equipment we haven’t seen before (and some we have), get excited about a foos engine and Pelton wheel, and debate way too long about possible tram buckets on blueprints. We hear from Pat Burke about how Big Thunder brought him closer to Michael Jackson, Kirk struggles to pronounce various geological names, and we hear an oration of a patent for a tool you’ll never see the same again. Kate waters some borax mules, Kirk finds a monocled robot, and all our detailed research makes us pause right before loading onto the Big Thunder trains, which means we’ll have to hop aboard the actual ride on our next episode.Join us LIVE on YouTube most Thursdays at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern for more Distory!Kate’s YouTube: @disneyciceroneYou can also find us on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and at disneycicerone.com & walruscarp.comView full video versions of each episode at Disney Cicerone's YouTube channel HERE OR on the Spotify version of our podcast.Distory T-shirts and StickersKate's books on AmazonWalrusCarp T-shirts & Merch
