A Fatal Romance: How Betty Lou Became America’s Notorious Black Widow

Betty, a high school dropout who left school in the 10th grade, spent the majority of her life employed as a cashier and waitress. Throughout her life, she entered into five marriages. She had killed her husband, a firefighter, in order to obtain his life insurance benefits amounting to $100,000 and his pension. His remains were found in a wishing well on their property, which was adorned with a flower garden. Additionally, police uncovered the skeletal remains of her fourth husband, Doyle Wayne Baker, buried beneath a storage shed on the premises. Baker had also been shot, and his disappearance had remained a mystery until the investigation into her fifth husband led to the search of her property.
