A number of measures needed to reduce fatalities on Irish roads
The increase in fatalities on Irish roads should act as motivation for Local Authorities to put measures in place to reduce speed limits.Sligo Drumcliff Councillor, Marie Casserly, says the recent figures are a stark warning of how dangerous many local roads currently are.All local authorities in the country will be expected to carry out speed limit reviews this summer in order to facilitate the changes to the speed limits.Under new laws, speed limits will be lowered to 80km/h on national secondary roads, 60km/h on local and rural roads, and 30km/h in town centres and housing estates.Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor Casserly says that although reviews of speed limits are welcome, a bigger emphasis also needs to be put on roads policing.
