A Real Talk About a Tough Topic: Abortion and Mercy (The Inner Life with Patrick Conley)

Patrick Conley had a chat with Fr. Carter Griffin and a caller named Julia, and they didn’t shy away from one of the hardest topics out there: abortion, especially in cases of rape.    The Core of the Conversation: Fr. Griffin, who’s the rector at St. John Paul II Seminary in D.C., shared a really compassionate view. He made it clear that while rape is a horrible crime, the baby conceived in such a situation is still innocent. The tough question is, how do we handle the tragedy of both the mother’s trauma and the life of an innocent child? 💔   Mercy and Understanding: What stood out was their focus on being merciful to both the mom and the baby. It’s not about "winning" a debate; it’s about recognizing the value of every human life, whether it’s the unborn child or the mother who's been through something unimaginable.   Grace in Conversations: Fr. Griffin also talked about how to approach these sensitive topics with grace and empathy. He suggested we take the time to really understand where people are coming from emotionally and culturally, pray for wisdom, and try reading or listening to perspectives we might not agree with. That way, the conversation stays respectful and less heated. 🕊️   A Call to Mercy: In the end, it’s all about mercy—for the baby, the mom, and even for people who support abortion.
