When Shashpal Singh migrated to Australia in 2007 as an international student, he was unaware his family had historical links to the country. Research later revealed that his great-grandfather, Massa Singh, worked as a cameleer in Australia before returning to Punjab after several decades. Historical records describe Massa Singh as one of the early Sikh settlers in Western Australia and refer to him as the state’s “champion wrestler.” A plaque in Coolgardie commemorates his contribution.
