“Het plan was om 2.200 kilometer te rijden, van Litouwen naar de Noordkaap, in veertig uur”, zegt Vespa-eigenaar Vygintas aan Michael Van Peel in Nordkapp stories. “Maar dat is niet mijn gekste trip, die deed ik in 2014 naar Oekraïne, om de burgers te beschermen tijdens de revolutie.” Vygintas is ex-militair, businessman, avonturier en een zelfverklaarde ‘crazy guy’ uit Litouwen. Maar hij heeft ook een hart van goud en is het soort plantrekker waarmee je in een greppel wil zitten wanneer de oorlog uitbreekt. Twee weken voor zijn trip naar de Noordkaap, kocht Vygintas een tweedehands Vespa. “Alles ging stuk, toen ik naar hier onderweg was”, zegt hij. Maar duct tape en kruipolie zitten gelukkig in het basisarsenaal van de roadtrippers die Michael ontmoet. Het verhaal van Vygintas blijft aan de ribben kleven. Hij trok tijdens de Maidanrevolutie naar Oekraïne en keerde later terug naar Litouwen om zijn bedrijfje dat filmopnames met drones maakte verder uit te bouwen.
