An Exercise in Uncertainty

from Heartache, Health, and Healing · host Brenda Mundt

Today's guest is Jon Gluck--a writer and editor whos work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vogue, and New York Magazine, where he spent ten years as deputy editor. He's won several National Magazine Awards, but his latest work might be his most personal yet. In his memoir, An Exercise in Uncertainty, Jon shares what it's been like to live with an incurable cancer for over 20 years. At just 38 years old, with a young child and a growing career, he was told he had 18 months to live. That was decades ago. In our conversation, we talk about what it's like to live in that in-between space -- not fully sick, not fully well--and how he's learned to deal with the fear, the unknowns, and the day to day reality of living wit something that doesn't go away. He also shares what fly-fishing has taught him about slowing down and finding peace, even when life feels uncertain.Jon doesn't sugarcoat the hard stuff -- but he does offer a lot of hope, wisdom, and honest insight into what it means to truly live, even when nothing feels certain. Grab your favorite beverage, get comfy and listen in our raw and real conversation.
