Macaulay graduated from St Andrews University, Scotland, is Professor Emerita, Department of Family Medicine, McGill University, Canada, was a family physician in the Mohawk community of Kahnawá:ke, Quebec, and a participatory/community engaged researcher promoting healthy lifestyles through the 30 year old Kahnawá:ke Schools Diabetes Prevention Program www.ksdpp.org. She founded Participatory Research at McGill (PRAM)  to engage with researchers, decision makers, health professionals, patients, and communities. She is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and National Academy of Medicine, USA and is now happily mainly retired to a small village with family, book clubs, a writing group, walking, stencilling, and gardening.
