5 years ago, you would probably not have heard about Chinese car brands such as BYD or Geely. But now they are rapidly eating the lunches of European carmakers - especially for electric vehicles. After a probe was launched last October into suspected subsidies of Chinese cars on EU markets, the Commission has now decided to impose substantial tariffs on Chinese EVs. China will almost certainly retaliate and a trade war looms.Olof Gill is a spokesperson on Trade for the EU commission
