Arkansas Weather 3/7 Evening - Flood Warning

from The Arkansas Weather Podcast

Good evening. Arkansas. I'm Michael Nally. In Step outside you’ll feel it, that heavy, damp air hanging after nearly an inch of rain overnight. The ground is soaked, skies are still weeping a light drizzle. And temperatures are stuck in the 50s. That’s about 35 degrees warmer than usual for early March, but don’t get used to this muggy calm. Northwest Arkansas wakes up to a chilly 35 degrees, with patchy fog clinging to the valleys. But by afternoon? You’re looking at a dramatic rebound to 70 degrees under sunny skies. Tonight stays clear with lows dipping to 52. Sunday brings more sunshine and a high of 71, but keep an eye on the wind—shifting from northeast to southwest by midday. That’s your sign the warmup is real. Central Arkansas starts at 50 degrees with a slight chance of lingering showers this evening. Mostly cloudy skies stick around tonight, but Sunday turns mostly sunny with a high of 72—perfect for shaking off yesterday’s rain. By Monday, though, storms return. You’ve got a likely chance of thunderstorms rolling in by afternoon, with gusty southwest winds up to 20 miles an hour. Northeast Arkansas is the wild card. A chance of thunderstorms lingers through midnight, with temperatures actually rising overnight from 48 degrees at dusk to near 51 by dawn. Sunday clears out with a high of 66, but Monday brings another round of storms. By Tuesday, thunderstorms become likely as temperatures climb to 78 degrees—that’s well above normal. Here’s your heads-up for the week ahead. This is just the opening act. A powerful storm system builds early next week, bringing multiple rounds of severe weather Tuesday through Wednesday. Heavy rain, damaging winds. And even isolated tornadoes are possible, especially across southern and eastern Arkansas. Behind it? A sharp cooldown by Thursday, with highs dropping back to the 50s and 60s. In One last note, the Cache River near Patterson is under a Flood Warning starting Wednesday. If you’re near low-lying areas, move equipment to higher ground now. Spring officially arrives in 13 days. But it looks like the weather is giving us a preview of the stormy side first. See you tomorrow.
