August 17 Daily Reading- Read the Bible in 1 Year

Today we will read about Nicodemus coming to see Jesus at night and being taught a lot! Jesus told him that people need to be born again, by the Spirit, and explained that God loved the world so much that He sent His only son into the world, that whoever believes in Him will have life forever. Jesus explained that He was not sent by God to condemn (blame) the world. People who believe in Him will not be blamed. This means that God forgives the sins of those who believe in Jesus. But people need to choose the way of light. Jesus is the light. He is the Way. And He is the Life.  He is the truth. We will also read about followers of John the Baptist complaining that other followers were leaving to follow Jesus and read John's response that he is not the Promised One. His job was to prepare the way for the Promised One and now that He had arrived John must become less and less important while Jesus becomes more and more important.  In our daily application we will be sure to understand that we must ALL make our own decision to follow Jesus. No one can make that decision for us. We must choose to be in the light, believe that Jesus is God's Son, and that He has saved us from our sins so that we are not blamed (condemned), and can be born again of the Spirit. As we grow, we need to remember that since we are a new person, we need to choose to obey Jesus and be less and less of that old person of the flesh and more and more of the new person, born of the Spirit.
