Black Flies of the Upper Peninsula
from Lansing News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Black flies are turning Michigan’s Upper Peninsula into a biting nightmare this season—especially near water. With over 65 species and females aggressively feeding on blood, they’re out from May through June (and beyond), making outdoor fun tough. Light, long sleeves and head nets help, as do DEET or picaridin repellents. While they cause swelling and headaches, they don’t spread disease here in the U.S. (unlike in other parts of the world where they’re linked to river blindness). Stay covered, avoid peak hours, and soothe bites with ice or lotion. Support the show:Get a discount at https://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
