Blessed Is the Man Who Fears the Lord (Psalm 112) | Charles Spurgeon

from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu

Deep Dive into The Treasury of David by Charles Spurgeon - Psalm 112Psalm 112 is an alphabetical poem designed as a companion to Psalm 111. While its predecessor extols the glory of God, this psalm celebrates the blessedness of the righteous man, who serves as a living reflection of the divine brightness. The foundation of this blessedness is a filial fear of the Lord, which leads the believer to delight greatly and cheerfully in keeping God's commandments rather than obeying out of a sense of slavish duty. The text outlines the profound spiritual and practical benefits bestowed upon the godly. Their descendants are promised to be mighty and influential, inheriting the invaluable legacy of an unblemished name. Furthermore, wealth and riches fill their homes; while this can denote material prosperity achieved through honest dealings, it primarily signifies the matchless spiritual wealth of a contented heart and divine love. Even when unexpected trials arise, the upright experience light in the darkness, as the Holy Spirit and the presence of Christ bring comfort during periods of depression, bereavement, or persecution. In his daily life, the righteous individual reflects God's own character by being gracious, compassionate, and strictly just. He exhibits open-handed benevolence, giving to the poor and lending judiciously, while managing all his earthly affairs with profound discretion and sanctified common sense. Because his heart is fixed and entirely trusting in the Lord, he remains completely steadfast, refusing to be paralyzed by the fear of evil tidings or worldly calamities. The psalm concludes by powerfully contrasting this enduring legacy with the fate of the ungodly. The wicked will bitterly observe the happiness and security of the righteous, gnashing their teeth in helpless envy and rage. Ultimately, the ungodly will melt away, their malicious desires will completely perish, and their names will be entirely forgotten from the earth.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@ReformedExplainerSpotify Music: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1t5dz4vEgvHqUknYQfwpRI?si=e-tDRFR2Qf6By1sAcMdkdwhttps://buymeacoffee.com/edi2730
