Hamada and Aya’s story in Alexandria began in 2006 with a marriage that many around them found unusual. Hamada, who was blind, adored Aya and tried to build a stable life for her and their growing family, which eventually included four children. Yet the marriage was marked by tension and suspicion. Over the years, Hamada increasingly believed that Aya was being unfaithful to him—particularly with his older brother, Ahmed—but his love for her and fear of losing her kept him from acting on those suspicions. By 2014, the relationship had deteriorated into constant conflict. During a heated argument in which Aya refused his advances, Hamada fatally stabbed her.
