Blizzard Warning | Connecticut Weather Noon

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Connecticut Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd. Folks, Connecticut is getting absolutely hammered right now. A full blown nor'easter is sitting on top of us. And the worst is still ahead. Four inches already on the ground. It's 28 degrees with snow falling.. And the real punch lands at 11 A.M. That's when the heavy bands move in. Snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour through 6 P.M. You're not driving through that. You're white knuckling it. Eastern Connecticut takes the worst beating. Three to seven more inches with gusts screaming to 53 miles an hour. That's blizzard territory. Whiteout conditions. Temps peak near 30 degrees around 11 A.M., then crash to 20 tonight. If you're anywhere near New London, here's the thing. High tide hits at 11 degrees:38 P.M.. And storm surge could push minor flooding into coastal streets. Slide west along the shoreline and the coast still catches gusts to 48 miles an hour. Highs reach 33 degrees around 3 P.M. Before dropping to 20 overnight. Heavy snow and blowing snow don't quit until 6 P.M. Push inland to Hartford and central Connecticut gets a slightly lighter dose. One to three more inches before things taper around 5 P.M. Highs hit 32 degrees near 1 P.M., then slide to 18 by 7 A.M. Tuesday. Wind chills tonight? Feels like 7 degrees. The kind of cold that finds every gap in your jacket. Power outages are likely, especially east. Wet heavy snow plus those winds? Trees and lines are coming down. Stay home if you can. Now the week ahead tells a better story. Tuesday brings sunshine but stays frigid, upper 20s to low 30s. Wednesday nudges toward 40 with a chance of light morning snow. Thursday and Friday bring a rain snow mix, highs climbing into the low 40s. By Saturday.. Mid 40s and sunshine. That's the light at the end of this tunnel. Keep your phones charged and your flashlights close tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
